The undermentioned table sets forth the numbers of such cases for the year: —

Upon receipt ot information ol the existence of a case, inquiry
is made by a Health Visitor to obtain all necessary facts.
Influenza.
The mortality from Influenza was 012 per 1,000.
Smallpox.
No case occurred during the year. In September information
was received from the County Medical Officer of Health, that a
contact of a Smallpox case in London was residing in the District.
The whole family was, in consequence, kept under observation,
and several children vaccinated. Another possible contact (a shop
assistant) of the original Smallpox patient in London was also
visited. No case resulted.
No vaccinations were performed by the Medical Officer of
Health under the Public Health (Smallpox Prevention Regulations,
1917) during the year under review.
Cleansing of Yerminous Persons.
Particulars are asked for as to the facilities available in the
district for the cleansing and disinfection of verminous persons
and their belongings.
Neither the Education Authority nor the Sanitary Authority
possesses a cleansing station. This matter has been brought to the
notice of the Education Committee on many occasions. Where
application is made, the Health Department undertakes the
spraying of rooms for the removal of bed bugs, and bedding and
clothing generally can be disinfected by steam at Mogden Isolation
Hosuital.
