During the year 186 samples of designated milk were submitted for bacteriological examination. The results were as follows s-

Five samples of Tuberculin Tested (Farm bottled) milk were sent to the
Royal Institute of Public Health and Hygiene Laboratory for animal inoculation.
These samples were found to be negative for tubercle bacilli.
ICE-CREAM.
During the year 107 samples were submitted for bacteriological examination.
The results were as follows:-
Grade 1 101
Grade 2 1
Grade 3 3
Grade 4 2
Grade 1 and 2 samples can be considered satisfactory; only 20% of the
samples taken from any one vendor should be of Grade 3 quality, and none of
Grade 4.
Action was taken in respect of the 5 unsatisfactory samples mentioned
above, and subsequent samples proved satisfactory. The two Grade 4 samples
were taken from a mobile van, and it was found that part of the equipment was
not in a sterile condition.
MEAT AND OTHER FOODS.
There are no slaughterhouses within the Borough, and no slaughtermen's
licences were issued under the provisions of the Slaughter of Animals Act 1958,
during the year 1960.
In November 1960 a Report upon the review of slaughterhouse facilities,
carried out in accordance with the provisions of Section 3(1) of the Slaughterhouses
Act 1958, as to the existing and probable future requirements for
slaughterhouse facilities within the Borough, and upon the slaughterhouse
facilities which were available or likely to become available to meet requirements,
was submitted to the Council. The Report indicated that there were no
slaughterhouses in the Borough, and that facilities for the procurement of
supplies of home killed meat were satisfactory. A copy of the Report was sent
to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
