a period exceeding ten minutes in the aggregate in a period of eight hours.
The Defendants pleaded not guilty, but the cases were found proven and a fine of
£5 was imposed in each case, together with costs of £5.5.0. and £3.3.0. respectively.
Part of the Council's evidence was obtained by means of a "telesmoke," it
being impracticable to compare densities by means of a standard Ringelmann
chart. It is satisfactory to record that this evidence was accepted.
During 1958 two standard deposit gauges and two lead peroxide instruments
were sited, one of each at Wimbledon Cemetery and at Cannizaro Nursery. These
two sites were approved by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research
and recordings were commenced on the 1st April, 1958.
After exposure for one month, the collecting jars and lead peroxide candles
are sent to the Public Analyst for examination. When the results are received,
a copy of each is sent to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research
for publication in the Atmospheric Pollution Bulletin, together with the results
of observations by 506 Local Authorities and other Organisations.

The following tables give the results of recordings up to December 1960s Cannizaro Nursery Site.
