HOME HELPS SERVICE.
At the beginning of 1948 there were six full-time and seventeen
part-time home helps employed by the Wimbledon Borough Council,
for the purpose of giving domestic assistance in connection with home
confinements or illness in the home.
When this Service was transferred to the control of the Surrey
County Council on 5th July, 1948, the number of home helps so
employed had risen to five full-time and thirty-three part-time workers.
During the first six months of the year 338 households were
supplied with domestic assistance under the scheme.
NURSERY PROVISION FOR CHILDREN UNDER FIVE.
The Day Nurseries at All Saints Road and Russell Road continued
to be well used. At the time of transfer to the Surrey County
Council on 5/7/48 there were on the register 126 children (30 under
two years of age and 96 between two and five years of age).

PUBLIC HEALTH ACT, 1936 — CHILD LIFE PROTECTION.

The following figures relate to the supervision of foster-mothers in Wimbledon during the period 1/1/48 to 4/7/48:>—

In addition to the number of foster-children shown above, there
were under supervision 28 children attending two private boarding
schools in Wimbledon.
PUBLIC HEALTH ACT, 1936. — SUPPLY OF INSULIN. —
MINISTRY OF HEALTH CIRCULAR 2734 (1943).
In accordance with the above circular the Wimbledon Borough
Council accepted responsibility for payment for the supply of insulin
to six persons during the period 1/1/48 to 4/7/48. As from the 5th
July, 1948, these patients were able to obtain insulin free under the
provisions of the National Health Service Act, 1946.
PUBLIC HEALTH ACT, 1936, PART VI. — NURSING HOMES.
The Wimbledon Borough Council is responsible for the supervision
of nursing homes in the Borough. Twenty-seven visits of
inspection were made during the year.
