BIRTHS.
The statistics supplied by the Registrar-General show that during
1948 the total number of registered live births belonging to Wimbledon
amounted to 946. In addition 15 stillbirths were registered. This
gives a birth-rate of 16.59 per thousand of the population, compared
with 19.82 per thousand for the previous year. 50 live births and 2
stillbirths were illegitimate.
Public Health Act, 1936.—Notification of Births.
During the period 1st January to 4th July, 1948, 617 live births
and 14 stillbirths were notified. Of these, 98 live births and 6 stillbirths
ocurring in Wimbledon were in respect of mothers normally
resident outside the district.
