Under Section 9 of the Food and Drugs Act, there was one
prosecution. This was for the sale of a doughnut found to contain
foreign matter. A fine of £10 plus costs amounting to £10 10s. Od.
were imposed upon the firm by the Court.
Ice Cream.
During the year seventy nine samples of ice cream were taken
for bacteriological examination, of which nineteen were found to be
unsatisfactory. Numerous visits were paid to the premises concerned.
At the end of the year all the ice cream samples had been
brought up to a satisfactory standard with the exception of that sold
from three premises where the owners voluntarily undertook to discontinue
further sales until certain alterations and improvements had
been carried out.
