The heaviest incidence of Chicken Pox was during the four
weeks ending 27th June, when 274 cases were notified—87 of these
being during the first week.
Two cases of Chicken Pox were admitted to Hospital because of
special circumstances in the homes.
Except for a few secondary cases in the same household, every
case was visited by a Medical Officer of the Department for verification
of diagnosis and a total of 1,265 visits were paid. One case
notified as Chicken Pox was removed to Hospital for observation
as a case of suspected Smallpox.
The following table gives information as to cases of associated Shingles and Chicken Pox which were found:—
Primary Case. | Secondary Case. |
---|---|
Mother had Shingles—2.3.31. | Child developed Chicken Pox— 17.3.31. |
Mother had Shingles—1.3.31. | Child developed Chicken Pox— 29.3.31. |
Mother had Shingles at beginning of March. | Three children developed Chicken Pox—27 & 28.3.31. |
Herpes some days previous to 23.3.31. | Brother developed Chicken Pox —8.4.31. |
One interesting feature is that three of the four cases apparently
occurred within a few days and in widely separated portions of
the Borough.
