The minimum stay in Hospital was seven days and the maximum
67 days. The average stay in Hospital was 20.6 days and the total
patient days was 3,996. The youngest patient was aged 8 months
and the eldest 66 years.
No account of the year's work at the Hospital would be complete
without grateful acknowledgement to the Matron of your Isolation
Hospital, who administered the Nursing and maintenance services,
and to the excellent services of the Nurses themselves. The very
frequent reluctance of patients to accept discharge from the Hospital
will sound almost incredible to those who have had no personal
contact with them.
Dr. W. Vernon Shaw, O.B.E., of the Ministry of Health, visited
the Hospital on the 2nd October to confirm the diagnosis in one case.
He made suggestions, which were later carried out, with regard to
the lay-out of the Huts.
Mr. Sharp, the Vaccination Officer for the Area, kindly furnishes
the following information:—
