Mrs. Thorne reports as follows:—
"During the year a large number of mothers have been referred
from the Welfare Centres for dental treatment. They were
chiefly nursing mothers, the expectant mother less frequently
seeking treatment.
Most of the cases were in a sadly neglected dental condition,
the patients having no knowledge of oral hygiene. This lack of
interest was in marked contrast to the general tidy appearance
of the patient showing that when not causing discomfort the
mouth received no attention at all.
There is great need amongst the poorer mothers for some
assistance in the cost of artificial dentures. Many are quite
unable to pay for dentures and go for years partially or wholly
without teeth.

(b) Dental.— The following work was done by the Education Committee's Dental Surgeons—Mrs. W. Rosa Thorne and Mr. G. Pict on Evans—under the Maternity and Child Welfare Scheme:—
