PREVALENCE OF, AND CONTROL OVER, INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
The following diseases are notifiable to the Medical Officer of Health:
1. Under Section 144 and 343, Public Health Act, 1936.
Smallpox. Enteric fever (Typhoid and Para-
Cholera. typhoid).
Diphtheria. Relapsing Fever.
Membranous Croup. Anthrax (made notifiable by the Local
Erysipelas. Authority as from 1/4/22).
Scarlatina or Scarlet Fever. Pemphigus Neonatorum (made notifiable
Typhus Fever. by Local Authority as from 29/6/29).
2. Under Regulations of the Ministry of Health.
Plague L.G.B. Order, 19/9/1900.
Puerperal Pyrexia The Puerperal Pyrexia (Amendment)
Regulations, 1954.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum P.H. (Ophthalmia Neonatorum) Regulations,

Food Poisoning Ilford Corporation Act, 1937, and Food
and Drugs Act, 1938.
In addition to the above diseases notifiable to the Medical Officer of
Health, certain industrial diseases are notifiable to the Chief Inspector of
Factories, Home Office, under Section 66 of the Factories Act, 1937. These
are cases of Lead, Phosphorus, Arsenical or Mercurial Poisoning or Anthrax
contracted in any factory. The Secretary of State can add other diseases
to those mentioned by Regulation.
