3. Tuberculosis.—During the year 1939, there were 167 new notifications
of Pulmonary Tuberculosis and 27 of other forms of Tuberculosis. 19 cases
of Pulmonary and 3 cases of Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis were transferred
to Ilford.

Of the above new cases, the following were notified from Institutions in the district:—

Of the 85 deaths which occurred of Ilford residents, notification had
previously been made of 70 of the cases ; 3 were notified after death ; 12 were
not notified (14.1 per cent, of the deaths, or a ratio of 1 in 7). Communications
were sent to enquire why notifications had not been carried out, in 10 cases
the deaths occurred in Institutions where the presence of tuberculosis was
discovered following P.M. and other investigations; in 2 cases the deaths
were certified by the Coroner after P.M.
