(iv) Parasitic Mange Orders of 1911 and 1918.—No cases occurred
during 1939.
(v) Importation of Dogs and Cats Order, 1928.—A Licence was issued
by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for the entry of 4 leopards into
the Borough for performance purposes. The animals were kept under observation
and isolation and left the Borough on the 25th February.
(vi) Foot and Mouth Disease Orders of 1928 and 1930 : (Foodstuffs)
Order, 1932 : (Packing Materials) Order, 1925 : (Amendment) Order, 1926 :
and F'oot and Mouth Disease (Restriction) Order, 1938.—No outbreak
occurred affecting Ilford in 1939.
(vii) Rabies Order, 1938.—No case of Rabies was notified during the year.
Rats and Mice Destruction Act, 1919.—93 complaints have been received
of the existence of rats affecting 173 premises. In 25 of these cases poison
gas has been used, and in the remaining cases other steps have been taken.
National Rat Week (November, 1939).—In accordance with the instructions
issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, special efforts were
made during National Rat Week, on the same lines as previous years.
Petroleum (Consolidation) Act, 1928.—The Sanitary Inspectors made
957 visits to premises where petroleum is stored, or in conjunction with the
installation of such storage, and tested 10 petroleum appliances or fittings. All
the Sanitary Inspectors are authorised Officers under the Act to inspect such
premises (Public Health Committee, 8th July, 1937).
The number of Licences issued was 134 and the fees paid to the Council
for such Licences was .£96 17s. Id. 3 Licences were issued for the storage
of calcium-carbide, the fees payable being XT.
