GENERAL SURVEY
OF THE
SCHOOL MEDICAL SERVICE
There were 18,910 children on the school rolls on December
31st, 1936, compared with 18,920 on the same date in 1935.
The number of children in average attendance at school for
the period April 1st, 1935, to March 31st, 1936, was 16,415 (or
16,508 including the Open Air School). 7,534 children were
examined at routine medical inspections, compared with 7,483
in 1935.

The following table compares the incidence-rate of physically and mentally defective children in Ilford with the Board of Education average for the country, as arrived at in 1923:—
