The infant mortality rate for 1930 for Ilford compares favourably
with that of 60 for England and Wales, 59 for London, and
64 for the 107 towns having a population exceeding 50,000.
The infant mortality rate for 1930 for Ilford is the lowest ever
recorded.
The deaths from pneumonia totalled 11, as compared with 22
for 1929. There were 17 deaths of premature infants as compared
with 25 in 1929. These two factors chiefly account for the decline
in the number of infant deaths in 1930. The number of deaths
from pneumonia in 1929 was partly due to an outbreak of influenza.

The following table compares the infant mortality in Ilford with that in other extra London areas. These are provisional figures issued by the Registrar-General.
