The marriages registered in England and Wales in 1881,
were 196,877, and equal to a rate of 15.1 per 1,000.
Births and Birth.rate.
During the past year there were 1,487 children born in
the District; 727 males, and 760 females.
The births registered in the Sub.Districts were :—

St. Giles, South | 639 |
St. Giles, North | 452 |
Whole District | 1,487 |
From this number 152 births must be deducted, as they
were the children of mothers who belonged, by previous
residence, to the Strand Union and other Metropolitan
parishes.
