The precept for the year 1897–80 amounts to £8,166: 18 s.7d.The amounts paid by this District to the London School Board since it was constituted are as follows:–

The precept for the present year amounts to £7,644: 19s. 11d.,
being at the rate of 5½d. in the £.
The lavish expenditure of the London School Board still continues;
it has increased from 68 per cent, in 1875 to 208 per cent,
in 1877, and in the present year to 225 per cent. This subject has
been discussed in the House of Commons, where (as was suggested
in this Board's Report of last year) it was pointed out that the remedy
is, to a certain extent, with the ratepayers, who could, by electing
suitable members to that Board, prevent its enormous outlay.
The Decease of Members.
The Board sincerely regret to announce the deaths of Mr. Benjamin
Bennett and Mr. W illiam Day, both of Southampton Row, late
Members of this Board. During the period they held office they
were active and attentive to their duties.
