The following macadamized roadways were recoated with broken
Guernsey granite; steam rollers being in all. cases used to consolidate
the granite after being spread:
Bernard Street
Montague Street
Upper Montague Street
Russell Square (North side and portions
of South and West sides)
Bedford Square (East side and portions
of South side)
Everett Street
Torrington Street
Arthur Street
Wilmot Street
Woburn Square (portion of East side)
Bedford Place
Upper Bedford Place
The whole of the remaining macadamized roads in the District were
repaired, and their surfaces placed in good condition.
New Sewers.
No new sewers were constructed during the year, but a contract
was let for the formation of new sewers in Russell Square (North
side), Marchmont Street, and portion of Great Coram Street. These
works have since been completed, and will be referred to in the next
Annual Report.
Street Cleansing.
The following staff of street orderlies were employed by the Board
and constantly engaged during the year in cleansing the public ways of
the District, viz.:
One foreman, three gangers, thirty-one sweepers—total thirtyfive
men.
