Homerton (viz., 1 Workhouse, 5 St. George Bloomsbury, 15 St.
Giles South, and 18 St. Giles North), and 59 in the Highgate
Infirmary. The additions make together 275 Workhouse deaths,—
minus 18 referred to below (§16)=257 deaths in Workhouse.
15. Besides the foregoing, there were 87 deaths in the General
Hospitals of persons belonging to our District, which must be added
to our general registered mortality. The Hospitals from which
these deaths were collected are the following:—Middlesex, 15;
Charing Cross, 19; University College, 7; King's College, 32; St.
Bartholomew's, 5; St. George's, 1; Westminster, 1; Childrens'
Hospital, 3; London Fever, 4. I am much indebted to the authorities
of these institutions for kindly permitting the inspection of their
voluminous records.
The aggregate additions to the registered deaths from all sources
is therefore 175.
16. There are now certain deductions to be made of deaths of
persons who did not belong to our District, which were registered
within it. For example: there were 12 deaths in the Workhouse of
Strand parishioners, and about 6 miscellaneous; these must be deducted
from the 275 deaths in Workhouse, leaving 257. There was
1 in the British Lying-in Hospital, and 31 in the Infants' Home,
Great Coram Street—altogether 50. Then, corrections must be
made for the Sub-Districts, as well as for the whole Districts. The
following Table shows the entire calculation at a glance:—
