Regular inspections were carried out of such premises and if unsatisfactory conditions were
found a verbal intimation to the management had the desired effect.
L. Smoke Abatement
It is a matter for regret that the Corporation have not yet been able to agree to the making
of smoke control areas. Nevertheless, householders do frequently seek the advice of the Department
with regard to matters concerning smoke abatement. In addition, observations were carried out on
factory chimneys and warnings given where black smoke was seen to be emitted beyond the prescribed
limit.

N. Diseases of Animals Act, 1950 and Slaughtering
39 visits were made in 1960 and 29 in 1961 in connection with various Orders made under
this Act. The Order was generally applied to movement of swine or cattle from infected areas to
local slaughterhouses. Checks were made to see that the licensed number of animals actually
arrived at the slaughterhouse and that no evidence of contagious diseases was present.
