STILL BIRTHS
The number of still births registered was 35 compared with 46 for the
previous year. The rate per 1,000 total (live and still) births was 19.8
the figure for 1950 being 25.5.
The still birth mortality rates for England and Wales and East Ham are
shewn in the following table:-

BIRTHS.
The number of live births registered was 1,732, as compared with 1,753
for the year 1950, equivalent to a birth rate of 14.3 per 1,000 of the
population - the figure for the previous year - 14.4.
The Registrar General has computed an Area Comparability Factor to
facilitate comparison of the birth rates In the various Local Authority
Areas, and the factor for East Ham Is 0.95. The corrected birth rate is
therefore 14.3 x 0.95 = 13.6. This corrected rate is used in all comparison
tables in this report.
