HARTS SANATORIUM.
DR. PALMER, the Modical Superintendent, reports as follows.
preface.
During the year under review, the new extensions to the Sanatorium
were opened by Mr. Alderman Barton.
That the increased bod accommodation has been well used is shown by
a study of the Statistics. Fifty-two more patients were treated than
during the previous year, a total of 183 as against 131 in 1942.
In the field of collapse therapy, more and more use is being made
of artificial pneumothorax, and, where the collapse is held up by
adhesions, for these cases to bo sent for the appropriate surgical
treatment.
As far as tuberculosis is concerned, 1943 will be remembered as the
year when Mass Radiography and Financial Allowances were introduced by
the Government. Tuberculosis is a huge social problem, and it is hoped
that the prevention and cure of the disease will be greatly advanced by
the establishment of these schemes.
