Population.
The mid-year population of the district was 220,400, an increase
of 1,700 on the mid-year population for 1948. The natural increase in
population, i.e., the excess of births over deaths during the year, was
1,193. Part of the rest of the increase could be the result of influx of
population into the new houses, particularly those put up by the London
County Council.
