THIRTY-SIXTH ANNUAL REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH,
Being for the Year 1891.
*
To the Vestry of the Parish of St. Mary Abbotts, Kensington.
Gentlemen,
In my sixth monthly report for the year 1891, I
made known to you the surprising and disappointing
character of what information I had at that time obtained
with regard to the Census taken in April, viz., the number
of persons of each sex, and the number of inhabited houses,
in the two registration sub-districts, respectively named Kensington
Town and Brompton. Before supplementing that
information with the further particulars since obtained, and
for which I am indebted to the courtesy of the RegistrarGeneral,
I may mention that the sub-districts are of very
unequal size. The entire Parish, according to the RegistrarGeneral,
contains 2,190 acres, the area of the Town subdistrict
being 1,497 acres, and that of Brompton 693 acres.
The Town sub-district still includes some open spaces—as
Holland Park and Notting Barn Farm. The Brompton subdistrict,
in which the builder has been active of late years,
many of the new houses being of a palatial character, is now
nearly covered.
