The deaths in the first and fourth or colder quarters (1,547),
exceeded the number in the second and third, or warmer quarters
(1,307), by 240. The excess belongs mainly to the first quarter
which was very fatal to aged people by reason of the inclement
weather which prevailed, especially in the month of January.

The subjoined table shows the death-rate in 13 periods of four weeks, corresponding with my Monthly Reports, and the mean temperature of the air
