Rats and Mice (Destruction) Act, 1919. Each male
Inspector has been authorised under this Act to act as rats
officer in his own district. During the year 200 special
inspections were made in this connection and six informal
notices were served. In no instance was it necessary to
resort to legal proceedings. In two instances rat-proofing of
premises was carried out under the supervision of the Inspector,
and in 14 instances investigation showed that the ingress of
rats was due to defective drains which were repaired in
consequence. The Council co-operated in the National Rat
Week Campaign, which this year was from the 4th to the 9th
