Nursing Provision. I am informed by the Secretaries of
the various voluntary Nursing Associations in the Borough
that the following number of cases of pneumonia were nursed
during the year:—
Woolwich and Plumstead Nursing Association 105
Eltham District Nursing Association 1
Silvertown and North Woolwich Nursing Association
3
St. Luke's Parish Nursing Association 12
The Council resolved to put into force the power granted
to them by the Pneumonia Regulations and to provide
nursing assistance for all cases of pneumonia occurring in the
Borough. Agreements were made with the various nursing
associations whereby the sum of 1s. 3d. a visit is paid for each
case where the Medical Officer of Health asks for nursing
assistance to be furnished. During the year 37 cases were
nursed at a total cost to the Council of £43 7s. 9d. The number
of visits paid by the nurses was 700, thus averaging 19 per case.
When the scheme becomes better known, nursing assistance
will be provided in more cases, and one of the chief objects of
notification, namely, the provision of nursing assistance, will
be more completely carried out by this Council.
On the assumption that one death is equivalent to three
cases of pneumonia, 87 cases were treated in hospital. It
is known that 110 notified cases were so treated.
