The birth rate, calculated on the civil population, was
18 f> compared with 20'5 in 1923.
Notification of Births. During the year 2,588 live births
were notified. This is at the rate of 97 per cent, of the
registered births and compares with 97 per cent, last year.
1,389 notifications were received from midwives, 197 from
doctors, 588 from the British Hospital for Mothers and Babies,
152 from the Military Families Hospital, 38 from the Woolwich
Infirmary, and 224 from other persons.
The following Table No. 7 shows the number of births in
each year since 1920, the number of live and still births notified
each year, the percentage of notified births, and the birth
rate for the same period for Woolwich, London, and England
and Wales.
