Disinfecting Station.
1,542 rooms were fumigated, and the bedding, etc., were removed and
disinfected by steam. Of these, 1,318 rooms were fumigated because of
notifiable diseases, 188 as a result of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, and 36 because
they were verminous. In addition to these, Scabies occurred in 226 families
where the bedding was taken away and disinfected by steam.
260,605 articles were disinfected. Of these, 236,424 were second-hand
articles of clothing for export abroad, 17,297 were from premises where infections
diseases occurred, and 6,884 because they were in a verminous condition.
603 articles of bedding were destroyed with the owner's consent.
The Mortuary.
The number of bodies deposited in the Mortuary during the year was 265.
Of these, 212 were removed by the Coroner's Order, 38 by the Police, 2 at the
request of deceased's friends, and 13 on my instructions.
42 bodies were placed in the Jewish part of the Mortuary, but only 21
were officially " watched."
244 inquests were held in the Coroner's Court, and 89 post-mortem
examinations were made.
