The condition of the houses has a great deal to do with the cause and spread
of Consumption. Better houses, general sanitary leiorms, and improved conditions
of living have been important factors in diminishing the number of deaths. The
number of deaths from Consumption decreased from 1901 (when the Borough
Council came into existence,) to 1910 by 35 per cent.
Since that date there has been a slight increase in the number of deaths.
