goods are disinfested by steam at the Disinfecting Station. The removal
and disinfestation is carried out on the same day. The number of families
transferring into the Council's flats during the year was 225.
The incidence of bed bug infestation appears to get less and less
every year. This may be due to the fact that tenants are more bugconscious
and have no objection to the Borough Council disinfectors
calling at their premises to carry out disinfestation work.
The Public Health Department are willing at all times to disinfest
free of cost any rooms or bedding in occupied dwellings.
ALTERATIONS TO DISINFECTING VAN.
Prior to 1950 two disinfecting vans were used by this department, a
"dirty" van to collect the articles to be disinfected, and a "clean" van
in which to return them. During the year one of the vans was fitted with a
moveable metal container into which the dirty articles could be placed,
this container could then be removed with the articles in it at the Disinfecting
Station, and the same van used to deliver clean articles. This
resulted in a saving of about £70 per annum in the cost of transport for
disinfection.
