15, Inspector Pratt 13, and Inspector Chapman 11, under observation. Altogether
they numbered 172, and in 48 instances sanitary notices were required, chiefly for
cleansing. In a few instances there were some serious defects in connection with
the sanitary arrangements, but otherwise they were of minor importance.
FRIED FISH SHOPS.
Of these there were 48 under observation; 35 were found in a satisfactory
sanitary condition; the remainder more or less needed attention, and some 13
sanitary notices were served, mainly for cleansing.
STREET MARKETS AND FOOD.
The usual supervision was exercised by the Sanitary Officers as regards food
exposed for sale.
The following were seized or surrendered and destroyed as unfit for the food
of man:—Skate 2 cwts., conger eel 2 boxes, 1 ton 4 cwt. 14£ lbs. of pork, veal
and beef joints, sausages and faggots and 2 barrels of sausage meat and faggots,
2 cwt. quarters of bacon, 2 boxes of meat offal, 29 lbs. of beef and mutton,
18 lbs. and 6 pieces of beef, 2 bushels of bread, 4 cwt. tomatoes, and 144 oranges.
No legal proceedings were taken.
SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACTS.
The reports of the Public Analyst, Mr. H. G. Harrison, M.A., show that
768 samples were submitted to him for analysis during the year. This number
is at the rate of 7'5 per 1,000 inhabitants.
