GENTLEMEN,
The present Report relates to the thirteen
weeks ending on the Third day of April last, and constituting
the first quarter of the year 1858.
For the sake of harmony, and therefore of easy
comparison, with the returns of the Registrar-General,
the Mortality-Table has been altered according to the
new method of classification introduced by Dr. Farr, at
the begining of the present year. In order to preserve
consistency between the Death and Sickness-returns,
I have also revised and extended the Sickness-Table,
adopting a plan similar to that of the new classification
of the causes of death.
