MORTUARIES
The Council maintains two mortuaries at which proper
facilities are provided for the Pathologist to carry out post
mortem examinations. There were six hundred and fifty-five such
examinations during 1971.
The mortuary at Beckenham continues to receive full usage
but that at Beaverwood, Chislehurst, is less used, most of the
bodies originating from Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup. When the
new hospital now being constructed on the site is completed, it is
expected that it will provide public mortuary facilities for the
whole of the London Borough of Bexley. Consideration will then
be given to the closing of Beaverwood.
