MINOR AILMENTS.

A total of2,370 attendances were made at the various clinicsfor thetreatment of minor ailments. Details of the main type ofailment treated aregiven below:

Treatments are carried out by the School Nurses, and any cases
attending minor ailment clinics and requiring medical advice are
referred to the General Practitioner or to the clinic doctors at their
visits.
The numbers of cases treated and total attendances at the clinics
show a decrease when compared with the figures for the previous
year. This continues a trend which has been apparent for some
time, the reasons for which have been the subject of comment in
previous reports.
SCHOOL HYGIENE AND NEW SCHOOLS.
The only improvement worthy of note which was carried out
during 1955, was the provision of additional sanitary offices at the
Grammar School for Girls. This was necessary in view of the
pressure on the accommodation at the school.
It may also be mentioned that at the same school, the towel
laundry was brought into full use for a trial period from the
beginning of the autumn term, 1955. This is only an experiment
for the purpose of providing data which may lead ultimately to the
provision of towel laundries at all new secondary schools, and is
encouraging a much greater use of the showers.
Provision of New School Buildings.
Primary Education.
The Pickhurst Junior School is now in course of erection, and
will provide maximum accommodation for 480 pupils. A large
number of these pupils is already accommodated in the existing
Infants' School building on the same site.
When the new building is completed, the Managers and the
Committee for Education may be able to extend the present
restricted "catchment area" for the School so as to allow the
