(e) Comminuted whole orange not more than 3.5%. (Should be not less
than 5.5%.) Vitamin C not detected ; therefore not fresh.
(f) Meat % Fat 21, Lean 39, total 60%. Sulphite absent.
(g) Sample No. 505. Meat 58% Sulphite absent.
Sample No. 524. Total meat 53%. Cereal Filler 21%. Pork
Sausages contain not less than 65% meat. There is therefore a
deficiency of 12% of meat below the minimum amount. The
deficiency represents 18.5% of the minimum.
(h) Fat 3.3% (butter fat 0.15%). Very slightly deficient in fat.
SPECIAL ENQUIRIES.
(a) Bacteriological investigation into complaints made to this
Department.

Twenty-nine samples of the following were submitted for examination during the year :—

Apples.Meat.
Bread.Milk (Condensed).
Breadcrumbs.Milk (Dried).
Cheese.Oranges.
Corned Beef.Plums (Canned).
Dried Egg.Sausage Meat (Pork).
Herrings in Tomato Sauce.Sausages (Beef Chipolatas).
Icing Sugar.Sweets.
Marzipan.Water.

Twelve of these were satisfactory and seventeen unsatisfactory.
(b) Bacteriological investigations made on routine inspections.
Ten samples were taken of the following foodstuffs :—
Marzipan. Sweets (Dolly Mixtures).
Water (Drinking). Sweets (Liquorice Allsorts).
Of these, nine were satisfactory and one unsatisfactory.
(c) Bacteriological examinations in connection with investigation
into Infectious Diseases and reported food upsets.

Thirty samples were submitted for examination, as under :—

Apricots (Cooked).Dripping.
Apple Pudding.Gravy.
Beans in Tomato.Milk (Pasteurised).
Beef (Cooked).Sweets (Dolly Mixtures).
Butter.Sweets (Tom Thumb Mixtures).
Coconut Sponge Pudding.Pastry.
Custard.Potatoes (Cooked).
Drinking Straws.Water (Drinking).
Drinking Water Beaker.

Of these, fourteen were satisfactory and sixteen unsatisfactory.
