INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOODS.
During the year, this service continued to receive the special
attention of the Department. The Sanitary Inspectors made a
total of 4,399 inspections and re-inspections of Food Premises.
316 defects were noted and a total of 340 defects remedied during
1954 this includes those noted in 1953 and remedied during 1954.
Every opportunity was taken by the staff of the Department
of giving advice on food hygiene to all those engaged in the
preparation and handling of food, and the co-operation of the
shopkeepers, restaurant owners, and personnel engaged in this work
has been all that could be desired.
Talks were also given during the year to various Organisations
and Associations on clean food practices.
No formal action was taken by the Council during 1954. under
the Byelaws adopted under Section 15 of the Food and Drugs Act.
