* On account of the engineering layout at these works it is not yet
possible to obtain regular samples before treatment.
DRAINAGE AND SEWERAGE
The reconstruction of a length of the main soil sewer in the
vicinity of Westmoreland Road was completed.
CESSPOOLS.
No new houses were erected with cesspool drainage. One
house was converted from cesspool to main drainage during the
year.
24 individual cesspools were emptied by the Borough
Engineer's Department upon the request of the householders.
RIVERS, STREAMS AND LAKES.
A contract was let for the culverting of approximately 185
yards of the River Ravensbourne immediately north of Hayes
Lane, and substantial progress made with the work.
The Sanitary Inspectors made 29 visits of inspection during
1954. No nuisances were found.
