SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE AREA.

SMOKE ABATEMENT.
78 inspections and re-inspections were made by the Sanitary
Inspectors during the year. Three nuisances were found and 4
remedied in 1954. (This includes those found in 1953 and
remedied in 1954.)
This Local Authority is co-operating with the Department of
Scientific and Industrial Research in the investigation of atmospheric
pollution, by making observations and communicating the
results of the estimation of sulphur by lead peroxide method. The
Council has two representatives on the Standing Conference of
Co-operating Bodies which discusses research into remedial
measures for dealing with atmospheric pollution and the administrative
action to be taken by Local Authorities in the exercise
of their statutory powers and responsibilities.
