Births.
According to the Registrar-General, -there were 578
births registered during the calendar year. The number is
corrected for inward and outward transfers.
The birth-rate of 16.5 was the same as that of the
previous year, which was the lowest recorded rate, with the
exception of those of three years influenced by the war.
If reference be made to the table of rates in the Appendix
to this report, the gradual approximation of the birth
rate to that of the death rate and the consequent diminution
of rates of natural increase will be appreciated.
The process of diminution is not peculiar to Bromley.
It is a feature of the vital statistics of the country generally.
However, its progress in Bromley is more marked than in
most other communities. This may be gathered by comparing
the birth and death rates of Bromley with those of
London and the Provinces.
