The mid year estimate of the population supplied by the
Registrar General is 49 100 a decrease of 400 from that of the
previous year
BIRTHS
The number of live births registered during the year was
635, which gives a crude birth rate of 12.9 per 1,000 of population,
the corrected birth rate being the same figure The rate
for 1957 was 13.2. There were 13 still-births, giving a stillbirth
rate of 20.5 per 1.000 births In 1957 the still-birth
rate was 16.79.
