The number of cases on the register at the end of the year was as follows: -

Pulmonary -315 malesNon-pulmonary -13 males
251 females41 females
Total56654

It must again be stressed that the totals which make up the
tables set out above are not sufficiently large to warrant any
significent conclusions being drawn. The figures merely allow us
to keep an eye on trends,so that we can take any action or suggest
any action which might be considered necessary.
The scheme for the B.C. G. vaccination of children in the 13
age group, referred to in my Annual Report for 1956, is making
excellent progress. This work is, of course, carried out by
Middlesex County Council staff, as part of the school health
services provided by the local health authority in Wood Green. No
difficulties have been encountered in administering or in carrying
out the B.C.G. scheme, which undoubtedly marks a very definite
step in the protection of our susceptible adolescents against
tuberculosis.
Mass Radiography Unit 6A did not visit Wood Green during
1957. Arrangements have however, been made for the Unit to visit
the Borough- during the early Autumn of 1958.
