continuing our efforts, in the hope that the additional information
which post-mortem examinations should give will afford a
clearer insight into the causes of death, especially those which
should be preventable. The greatest care is also being exercised
in the field of ante-natal welfare, since it is now known that a
number of infant deaths are due to causes which arise during
pregnancy and which lead, if not to a stillbirth, to the early
death of the newly-born infant.

In other words more work is still required to ascertain the true causes of early infant deaths and to ensure that, whenever possible, these causes are not allowed to arise.
