DEATHS
The number of deaths credited to Wood Green after the nec
essary adjustments had been made for inward and outward transfers
was 537 giving a crude death rate of 10 7 per 1,000 of population
and a corrected death rate of 10,5 The total number of deaths
for the previous year was 519. when the death rate was 10 3 Of
the total of 537 deaths no fewer than 377 occurred at ages over
65 and 120 deaths occurred at ages over 80 and 19 at ages over 90
INQUESTS
Nineteen inquests were held following the deaths of Wood
Green residents during 1956 A further 137 post mortem examinations
were carried out without an inquest 50 of these in the Prince of
Wales Hospital which, by arrangemnet with the Wood Green Borough
Council, provides mortuary services
MATERNAL MORTALITY
Again as in the three previous years no deaths occurred as
the result of childbirth
