Housing Applications
The task of visiting housing applicants and the preparation
of reports on their living conditions has been discontinued with
the exception of certain cases where information is required by
the Council's Housing Officer or by Housing Departments of outside
districts, when a Wood Green resident is an applicant on
their Housing List Several such visits were made by the Sanitary
Inspectors during the year.
I am happy to be able to report that the closest liaison
exists between the Housing Section and the Public Health Department
Scarcely a week passes but consultation takes place between
both Departments in regard to housing applications. This particularly
applies; of course, to cases in which there is a medical
background especially cases of tuberculosis. It is very right
that this co-operation should exist and it gives me great satisfaction
to know that the weight of medical evidence invariably
receives sympathetic and careful consideration.
Housing Survey
The preliminary survey of the Council's proposed clearance
area was commenced during the latter part of the year. A full
report on this will be included in a subsequent report.
The Moselle Brook
The investigation of the Moselle Brook, which was started in
February 1954,, was concluded in June of this year. Mr. Bell, one
of the two Sanitary Inspectors employed for this purpose resigned
from the Council's employ on 30th April as the work was by that
time nearing completion, it was not deemed necessary to replace
him. The work was then pursued to its conclusion by Mr Goodfellow
being assisted by two workmen from the Borough Engineer and
Surveyor's Department. The method of procedure was identical to
that carried out during 1954.
I submit below a final summary of the work carried out. Besides
the notices served to remedy defective drainage, advice was given
to owners or their representatives at interviews. The necessary
work was required to be done in accordance with the notices served.
Re-inspections were made in all cases in order to ensure complete
compliance with the notices. In this respect it was found necessary
in a number of instances to make several calls.

Letters have been sent by the Town Clerk to the owners of properties where notices are still outstanding.
