Since taking up my appointment as Medical Officer of Health
of Wood Green,I have been particularly struck by a feature which
has been especially prominent in Wood Green. The point to which
I refer is the importance accorded to cultural activities. Here,
Wood Green is extremely fortunate.Within the Borough, the leisure
time of the citizen is fully catered for. We have reason to be
proud of the various organisations, societies and means of securing
the right type of entertainment which exist within our boundaries.
This may appear to be a very small point. It actually is
not.Our cultural background should be part of our very existence
and deserves its due mead of attention.
It has been rightly said that everything which affects health
comes within the purview of the Medical Officer of Health. It is
for this reason that I mention this particular point. The fact
that the name of Wood Green is associated with a Borough possessing
first class amenities where the civic spirit is high, and
where the citizens can enjoy a full and pleasant life has, in my
submission, contributed in no small measure to the health of our
Borough,
