Repairs to Houses
Repairs have been carried out at 556 houses during the year,
principally following complaints from the occupiers of the houses.
For the most part the work has been done after service, by the
Sanitary Inspectors, of preliminary notices, but in 33 cases, statutory
notices under the Public Health Act, 1936 or the Housing Acts,
1936/49, were served upon the owners after failure to comply with
the preliminary notices.
In one instance it was found necessary for legal proceedings
to be taken against the owner and a Court Order was obtained,
with costs. The required work has since been executed by the
Council.
Repairs to six houses were carried out by the Council in the
owners' default of statutory notices served under the Public Health
Act, 1936 and the Housing Acts, 1936/49. The cost of the works is
recoverable from the owners.
