INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The number of deaths occurring in children under 12 months
of age was 21 and the Infantile Mortality Rate 34 per 1,000 live
births. This is an improvement on the rate for 1938, which was 38,
and is the lowest ever recorded in Wood Green.
The individual causes of the infantile deaths and the age at
which death occurred are shown in Table V. Of the total of 21
deaths it will be seen that 10 occurred in the first week of life and
a further 5 during the next three weeks.
MATERNAL MORTALITY.
Two deaths were ascribed to puerperal sepsis, giving a Maternal
Mortality Rate of 3.1 per 1,000 births. In one case the sepsis followed
an abortion, while in the other it followed induction of labour in a
case of eclampsia.
