PREVALENCE OF AND CONTROL OVER INFECTIOUS
DISEASE.
Table VI in the Appendix gives details of the notifications
of infectious disease received during the year. The total number
of cases notified was 190, a very low figure compared with the previous
year, when the number was 279. The decrease is accounted for
by the low incidence of diphtheria and, to a lesser degree, of scarlet
fever, while there was also a reduced number of notifications of
tuberculosis, 51 as compared with 69.
The number of cases removed to hospital or sanatorium was
168, as compared with 232 in 1938, and the number of deaths from
notifiable infectious disease was 60 the same number as in 1938.
