MATERNAL MORTALITY.
Two deaths were registered as maternal deaths. In one case
death was due to heart disease complicating pregnancy, and in
the other the cause of death was toxic vomiting of pregnancy.
There were no deaths due to puerperal sepsis. The Maternal
Mortality Rate was 2.9 per 1,000 births, as compared with 4.5 for
the previous year.

I am indebted to the Clerk of the Middlesex County Council for the following figures showing the particulars of outdoor relief granted to Wood Green residents during 1938 :—

The amount granted in 1937 was £21,362 17s. 2d.
ACCIDENTS DUE TO TRAFFIC.
Information with regard to street accidents has been obtained
from the reports which are sent by the Commissioner of Police to
the Borough Surveyor. During 1938, there were 107 accidents in
the High Road and 124 elsewhere in Wood Green involving personal
injury, and the use of a motor ambulance was required on 207
occasions as compared with 215 in 1937.
