PREVALENCE OF AND CONTROL OVER
INFECTIOUS DISEASE.
Table VI in the Appendix shows the details of the notifications
of infectious disease received during the year. The total number
of cases notified was 249, a considerable reduction from 323, the
number for the previous year. The reduction was due almost
entirely to the fall in numbers of cases of scarlet fever and
diphtheria. The number of cases of scarlet fever1 notified was only
72 as compared with 98, 201, and 2(92 respectively, in the three
